482 document checklists

Use these starting lists to organise evidence, then tailor them to the stream, employer and applicant. A checklist helps preparation but does not establish eligibility.

KEY POINTS

  • Use separate employer and applicant evidence lists.
  • Resolve inconsistent names, dates, duties and salary figures.
  • Exchange sensitive records through an agreed secure process.

Applicant preparation

  • Passports, visa grant notices and current visa details.
  • Chronological CV, qualifications and transcripts.
  • Employment references, pay records and relevant tax evidence.
  • Applicable English results, skills assessments and registration.
  • Partner relationship evidence and children’s birth or care documents.
  • Required translations and explanations of missing records.

Check the required form and timing before obtaining police certificates or health examinations. Tailor the list to each applicant and stream.

Employer preparation

  • Legal entity details and evidence of business operations.
  • Relevant financial records and organisational chart.
  • Position description and proposed employment contract.
  • Salary evidence and a clear remuneration breakdown.
  • Labour market testing records or evidence supporting an exemption.
  • Existing sponsorship approval or applicable labour agreement.

Identify the authorised contact and explain any differences between trading, employing and payroll entities. The documents must describe the same genuine position.

Quality matters as much as quantity

Check names, dates, duties, hours and salary figures across the file. Preserve originals and use clear document names. Identify required translations and explain missing records rather than silently substituting an unrelated document. Avoid editing a third party’s reference yourself; ask the issuer to correct any genuine error. Sensitive records should be exchanged through an agreed secure process, not the initial enquiry form.

Hypothetical example

An applicant’s CV lists full-time work while a reference records variable hours. Before lodging, the applicant obtains accurate supporting records and explains the arrangement. Resolving the discrepancy is more valuable than uploading additional documents that repeat the same unverified claim.
